20% Time Conclusion

This has been my favorite thing I've ever to do in school. I wish I could do it every year. I've been inspired to take some of my time each school year, or at least during the summer, and learn something new or do a project. I was really nervous about the presentation part, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would. I'm so glad that we got to do this project this year.

20% TIme Speech


For my 20% time project, I wrote 20% of a book. Allow me to explain. For my 20% time I planned to write a full length novel. I did not accomplish this goal, but I had a lot of fun writing and I am very proud of my work. I didn’t get very far in my book, but I know what I want my ending to be. I don’t know how to get there though. I think that is why I didn’t finish. I hope to continue my book, finish it in the next few years, and eventually get it published.

I had some failures throughout this process. A lot of the time I had no idea where to go with my book. Or I would have an idea, but I wouldn’t know how to write it. I didn’t really know a lot of important things like character development. Also, I was (and still am) awful at description. I also had some major successes. For example, I’m really proud of my idea for my book and it has inspired me to write more books. I already have at least four ideas.

            I learned many things from this project. The biggest thing I learned is that it is really hard to write a book. Going into it, I thought that I just had to focus on the main character and the plot. But no; there is so much more than just that. I also had to focus on character development of all the characters, plot development, description, setting, and a few more things. I still need to learn better wording and character development. Another thing that I learned is I should probably map out all the characters and the plot before I start writing. Also, I learned that when doing anything (not just writing a book) I have to be really dedicated and not drift away from it.

Though I did not finish writing my book, I enjoyed the process. I actually had a lot of fun and I am very excited to continue/finish my book. I still do have a lot to finish and work on. I also might change a lot of the details. This project has motivated me to work really hard in the next few years. My 20% time project was to write a book, but I only got done with 20% of it.

So Long, Farewell

I'm almost done with my tri board and I think it looks really good. Celeigh drew some awesome pictures of two of the main characters. I've been printing off some excerpts of my book and I've realized that I still have a lot to work on. This will probably be my last blog post of the year, so bye for now...

writing is hard

Writing a book is much harder than I thought. I didn't realize that I would have to focus so much on the other characters as much as the main character. You have to work on character development and everything. I don't know how to explain it, but it's really hard.

new ideas

Sooooooo, we present our projects on my birthday! Anyway, I haven't worked on my book since before Spring Break and I have no ideas for it. Oh and I think I'm going to get Celeigh or somebody draw a book cover. I'm obviously not going to finish my book in time, but I think for my project I'll just put the first part up.

Realization

I know that it's Saturday and that I don't have to be working on my 20% time, but I wanted to add on to my book. In the midst of typing, I realized that I don't know my main characters name! Wow... I just wanted to document that.
